In the midst of legal issues raised against its negotiations with South African Telecom giant MTN for an amalgamation deal, Anil Ambani group firm RCOM on Monday offered to meet Reliance Industries, headed by Mukesh Ambani, but said meeting will not be part of conciliation.
In its offer, that comes days after RIL invoked the arbitration clause under the non-compete agreement and asked RCOM to start conciliation as part of the process, Reliance Communication proposed to meet "RIL in week of 14th July to clarify any doubts".
Debunking RIL's claim of right of first refusal as "legally and factually untenable and misconceived, Reliance Communication, whose exclusivity agreement with MTN for talks, is coming to end on Tuesday, said the "meeting is not part of conciliation or dispute resolution mechanism".
RCOM sources said that neither there was any dispute nor occasion for conciliation process and said that communication to RIL makes it clear that the company reserved the rights to take all actions as legally advised.
