The Chennai Port Trust is located in the south-east part of India, Chennai and more than 100 years old. The port is well connected with the major parts of India. There have been continuous changes in the port along with less cost and effective results which is having a user-friendly approach in completing any given task.
In the year 1639, the port became an important part of the country. Till 1875, the port was open from all the sides and natural calamities like storms and monsoons use to sweep away the sand. By the year 1970, the port was functioning fully at its best in terms of storage and handling containers. There are many facilities on the port, which prove to be useful in their own manner and usage. The facilities like different pipes for different oils proved very useful to the users. The provision of fire fighting equipment is used with diesel and electricity which is used to supply fire hydrant, this is done effectively as the port has its own fire fighting pump house.
The port is well-equipped with maintenance workshop and service station along with automatic belt weigher. The receiving and shipping lines are separate but they can effectively work as interconnected system as well. The rail lines are also well-connected to the port, which helps in increasing the business and in turn helps in growth. The future of the port seems to be bright with a proposed plan of an additional space by spending Rs.15crores. Some of the major changes will be under taken in different phases, to execute the funds accordingly.
