The Cochin port is situated on the Willingdon Island on the south west coast of India. The port trust believes in integrity and to provide services to the community in an efficient manner. The port is the most preferred investment location. It is also said that the port is the located in a most strategically manner. The port is natural; incorporating all the types of weather. It has the modern equipments which are used to handle containers and other cargos.
The port is fully computerized and having an efficient administration. The warehouse capacity is also adequate. The port is clearly linked with the ICDs of the southern part of India by railway and roadway. The port is free from any type of congestion. The labor productivity is high and it is a positive sign of cost effectiveness. The operations on the port are run round the clock.
There are number of facilities available on the port, with different equipments from Cargo handling to Yard equipments, which are very much useful for the users. The storage facility is also remarkable on the port; approximately 57485sq. m area is covered and nearly 1, 00, 000sq.m area is open and wide.
The performance of the Port is very much remarkable, during the year 2005-06, it had handled traffic of nearly 139.38 lakh tones. During the year 2005-06, the operating ratio of the Port was around 73%.
