Short codes or short numbers are 5 digit telephone numbers, extensively shorter than full telephone numbers, which can be used as a medium to handle origination of SMS; they are considered to be shorter to read out and easier to remember than normal telephone numbers. Short codes are widely used for value-added services such as television voting, ordering ring tones, promotional campaigns, charity donations and mobile services.
