chloramphenicol palmitate is used to formulate syrups.It lacks the bitter taste of chloramphenicol. It is hydrolysed in the upper intestinal tract into the parent drug; however, it does not share the topical efficiency of the parent drug. Its toxicity is like that of chloramphenicol.
