Foundry sand mixer liners and blades
Mixers for sand and concrete are one of the components that are most vulnerable to aggressive abrasion, erosion and corrosion. Rarely can a metal withstand this complex wear system. Till today, high-density tungsten carbide overlay has been the only successful medium in a metallic matrix to encounter this wear system. ESAB recommends pre-formed high apparent density Tungsten carbide in tubular formulation with 60-75% coverage for life enhancement.
Forging dies, trimming dies, working tools
Forging die wearout is a recurring problem faced by automobile manufacturers. The old practice was to cut out a portion of the die and re-engrave the imprint. With ESAB's new technology, the old die can be re-used with minimum metal loss, and new dies can be pre-faced before usage to enhance operational life. This virtually increases the die life infinitely. Trimming dies endure more friction and less impact than forging dies. ESAB’s secondary hardening electrodes remain soft after welding to enable machining. In operation at elevated temperature, the hardness increases to take care of friction. ESAB also manufactures special electrodes for cold working tools, punching and stamping tools.
Casting dies
With increased use of aluminium die cast components the ancillary units of automobile manufacturers need ESAB's expertise to reclaim wearing and broken alloy steel dies. ESAB recommends specific grades of non-ferrous alloys depending on wear pattern and life requirement.
Salvaging broken presses
ESAB engineers, specializing in repair and maintenance technology, brought blocks of high strength metal shattered into two pieces together, giving it a new lease of life.
