Bauxite, alumina handling

Extremely hard oxides and ores of aluminium pose threat to handling system and machinery due to abrasion, impact and erosion. Protection against these requires carbides of special grade with high individual hardness and density.

Smelting furnace door

ESAB has carried out critical repair of smelting furnace door aluminium plant. The cast steel door weldment required exceptional spalling resistance due to the large gap of smelting and tapping temperature. While available electrodes failed to provide it, ESAB developed special consumable to carry out this job and enable smooth functioning of the furnace.

Handling alkali slurry in aluminium plant

Chutes, bends, pipings for aggressive slurry handling uses corrosion resistant carbides. Also buffers with non-ferrous high temperature alloys prove effective.

Scraper blades of stainless steel

Dross scraping blades and buckets are made of special grade of stainless steel. ESAB nil-ferrite consumables are used to resurface them after welding.

Pneumatic conveying of copper ore

The pipings and impellers of pneumatic conveying systems wear out by erosion unless protected by light micro carbides.

Graphite electrode manufacture unit for smelter

For crushing and grinding graphite ESAB’s tribologists frequently interact with aluminium plant engineers suggesting systems and taking feedback.
