Calciner is a type of dryer that uses to reduce the moisture content of the product. The dryer is made up of a large, rotating shell supported on rollers/ tyres and driven by girth gear or frictional drive. The rotating shell through which stream of hot air is flowing, shell is inclined towards discharge end in order to convey the material through the dryer under gravity. Material to be dried enters the higher end of the dryer, and as the dryer rotates, the material is lifted up by a specially designed lifters & showered in stream of hot air, due to direct contact of product with air/ gas, it gets dried. This air stream can either be moving toward the discharge end from the feed end (known as a co-current rotary dryer), or toward the feed end from the discharge end (known as a counter-current rotary dryer).
